LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – A local student has won the Kentucky Derby Festival Spelling Bee for the second year in a row.
Tara Singh, a 7th grader at Louisville Classic Academy, won the bee after competing against 61 other students in 10 rounds.
Tara is no stranger to winning spelling bees, she’s won the WHAS11 spelling bee twice.
For her big win, she received a $10,000 savings bond from the John and Joan Memorial Scholarship Fund and a trophy.
Tara is competing in another bee next weekend in hopes of qualifying for the Scripps National Spelling Bee this summer.
