LMPD creates 'swap zones' for online buyers

The swap zones are set up to be a safe place where online buyers can meet with the seller and finalize the transaction.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – There is now a safer way to buy items through Craig’s List and other websites.

Metro Police have set up lighted locations with 24-hour surveillance video known as Swap Zones.

The swap zones are set up to be a safe place where online buyers can meet with the seller and finalize the transaction.

Chief Steve Conrad says the swap zones will help cut down on crime.

“This idea came up from our staff after seeing several crimes where citizens were robbed during the exchange over a piece of merchandise they either bought or sold online,” he said.

The Metro Swap Zones are set up in the parking lots of the Second, Third, 7th and 8th Divisions.
