LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Kentucky's prison population is expected to increase by thousands over the next ten years, and it will come at a large cost to taxpayers.
A state justice group projects the 19 percent jump will overwhelm jails and prisons. That increase will cost nearly $600 million more dollars for the state.
Kentucky's Justice Secretary said lawmakers still have time to make changes to help this situation. The group plans to put out a set of recommendations December 18.
