LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- For the first time we're hearing from the new head of the Kentucky Democratic Party.
Lexington Businessman Ben Self was elected Chairman of KDP last weekend. He takes over the helm at a time when Kentucky Democrats find themselves in a minority in the house for the first time in nearly a century and facing fundraising challenges Kentucky Republicans do not currently face.
Chairman Self said he recognized those challenges, but he sees fighting for the party's core values in Frankfort as the most important challenge to tackle.
"My thought was that there is so much opportunity here to make a positive impact on this state and we're in such a turning point where there is so much of a challenge that the state is going to face ahead of us if we don't turn it around,” Chairman Self said.
