LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – An employee of the Town of Clarksville was terminated after a comment he made on social media recently. The Town of Clarksville said the comment was “hateful and inappropriate.”

The comment was made through the employee’s personal Facebook account. He was off-duty at the time of the comment. The comment was made on a Facebook post of a wedding photo.

This is the wedding photo the Clarksville employee commented on on Facebook.

“The Town of Clarksville would like to offer our sincerest apologies to anyone affected by the comment made by one of our employees on social media. The comment was shocking, deplorable, and the Town of Clarksville in no way condones or supports these comments,” said Paul Fetter, Clarksville Town Council President. “We want all those involved to know that we understand what happened is unacceptable.”

Officials with the town contacted those involved to apologize.

The Town of Clarksville says their employees will be reminded they represent the city while on duty or off duty.

The town says they were in the process of creating social media policies, but they do not have any at this time.
