WASHINGTON CO., Ind. (WHAS11) – After heavy rains and flooding in Washington County, authorities declared a state of emergency.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency for all or parts of Washington, Jefferson, Clark and Scott counties. It said local law enforcement agencies reported flash flooding and several water rescues in progress early Friday evening in Washington County.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Jerry Goodin said the city of Seymour north of Salem had downtown street flooding.

Emergency crews continue to check homes and vehicles.
