INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana election officials say thousands of voter registrations have been altered in what's believed to be possible voter fraud.
The Indiana Secretary of State's office said Tuesday voters contacted it after discovering their dates of birth or first names were incorrect on state voter rolls. That prompted the office to run a report in the Statewide Voter Registration System, and it found thousands of registrations had been altered.
The office says records were changed on paper forms, online and at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. It says the Voter Registration System has not been compromised.
It says it has turned over its findings to the Indiana State Police, which already was investigating possible voter registration fraud in 56 counties.
