LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Longtime barge manufacturer JeffBoat is set to officially close its doors as the last bit of work finishes.
The last of the barges rolled off the assembly line and into the Ohio River Monday, April 23.
The company announced in February that it would be closing the facility by the end of April due to a continual decrease in demand for vessels.
With that announcement came the laying off of its remaining 200 plus employees.
At its peak, JeffBoat once employed 1,300 workers. Now its remaining 80 workers are forced to retire or find work elsewhere.
