Indiana (WHAS11) - Heavy rain fall over the last two weeks caused the Ohio River to rise, causing lots of headaches and flooding in the area. In the middle of all the chaos, there's one rescue mission by two Indiana fire departments that's getting a lot of attention.

Clarksville and Jeffersonville Fire Departments took to the rising waters Friday to retrieve the American flag at Duffy's Landing.

It was a mission that people in the area were excited to see. One person writing on the page that they had been watching the water slowly rising for nearly a week but didn't know who to call.

Kyle Patterson of Jeffersonville Fire Department wrote on Facebook that the rescue was no easy task. Even with the elevated waters and the flag not quite at the top of the pole, crews were still just out of reach.

A flood warning remains in effect for the entire portion of the Ohio River in Kentuckiana over the weekend.
