NEW ALBANY, Ind. (WHAS11) - The New Albany Police Department and New Albany Floyd County School Corporation investigated after several people reported possible threats to New Albany High School.

The suspect is now in custody. A statement released by New Albany Chief of Police Todd Bailey reads,

The suspect in today's social media posting regarding New Albany High School is in custody. The 16yr old male is a former student of NAHS. Charges are pending but are likely to include felony Intimidation among others. This case remains under investigation and no additional statements will be issued tonight.

"We'd like to thank everyone who helped us with this case. Law Enforcement is a partnership with the community and we couldn't perform effectively without your support," Chief Bailey said.

On Friday afternoon, officials became aware of social media postings containing alleged threats against the high school. Additional Police Officers were placed at the school as a precautionary step.

Authorities did not believe there was a viable threat toward the school or other school facilities.

The NAPD, New Albany-Floyd County School Corporation, and New Albany Mayor Jeff Gahan’s Office say students were never in harm’s way.
