3 arrested after Charlestown gas station robbery

Three people are in custody after an apparent robbery in Charlestown, Indiana Sunday.

CHARLESTOWN, Ind. (WHAS11) – Three people are in custody after police say they robbed a gas station.

The robbery happened just before 5:30 p.m. at the Sunoco on Market Street.

The Charlestown police chief told WHAS11 News officers caught two of the suspects during a traffic stop. They found the third suspect in an apartment near Wood Street.

The Southeast Regional SWAT team responded to that location with the suspect later surrendering without incident.

“When I walked out there, I notice there were like two cops around back of that apartment complex that had their guns out and everything – and then there was more cops coming. Like they were from New Albany, Jeff, Clarksville, Harrison County – they was all up there,” Steven Campbell, a witness, said. “[It’s] probably the biggest thing that’s happened in this town probably in like a long time. You know this is a small town. Everybody pretty much knows everybody. But nobody knows who that guy is.”

The three suspects remain in custody and are being interviewed by police.

Their identities have not yet been released.
