LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – For the last eight weeks, the ReSurfaced lot has taken over the corner of Shelby and Liberty. It’s closing for the season after this weekend, but an annual event will shut it down in style.

The Friend Chicken Throwdown is back for its third year. It runs from noon to 4:00 p.m. on October 29. Around a dozen local restaurants will compete for the best fried chicken, best vegetarian side, and best dessert.

“We want to get every type of member of our community out here enjoying fried chicken because who doesn’t love fried chicken? So, it’s very family-oriented. Everyone is invited, and we hope everyone comes,” organizer Sarah Stewart said.

The event benefits Slow Food BlueGrass.

“We’re a local, food-centric non-profit organization, and our mission is good, clean, fair food for all,” Stewart said. “Our main initiative is we distribute a school garden grant each year locally, and these community events that we put on raise money for that school garden grant.”

The event is free, but it costs $3 per chicken taste and $2 per vegetarian side and dessert taste.
