LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – The family of a man shot by an LMPD officer last week is seeking legal counsel, community advocate Christopher 2X said.

Officer Sarah Stumler came across Bruce Warrick, 38, hiding behind a mattress while police were clearing an abandoned house on Magazine Street. The body camera footage shows Stumler firing one shot at Warrick shortly after calling for him to put his hands up.

Warrick has undergone surgery and remains in critical condition.

Warrick’s family members have hired Sam Aguiar and Thomas Clay as their legal representation. Thomas Clay represented the family of Michael Newby after Newby was shot and killed during an undercover drug deal in 2004. Aguiar is currently representing the family of Darnell Wicker, who was shot and killed by police in 2016.

The family is expected to address the media Sunday afternoon regarding their decision to seek legal counsel.
