Family hosting fundraiser to train service dog for Louisville teen with AFM

Shane Roof, a Louisville teen who was diagnosed with Acute Flaccid Myelitis in 2017, is in need of a service dog.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) — While you consider giving to charities this holiday season, a Louisville family wants you to consider donating to their cause.

Shane Roof, a Louisville teen who was diagnosed with Acute Flaccid Myelitis in 2017, is in need of a service dog.

AFM is a condition that affects the nervous system, causing a weakness in the muscles. Shane has made vast improvements since his diagnosis, but his family believes a service dog will help Shane gain more independence.

His family is holding a fundraiser at the Okolona Penn Station location from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday. 10% of sales will go toward the cost of training the service dog.
