LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – Five days after a massive water main break left a portion of a Shelby Park neighborhood flooded, officials with the Louisville Water Company say a new section has been installed.

Crews replaced a 48-inch water main at Clay and Oak Streets and also replaced a 48-inch valve near Oak and Preston Streets.

LWC says the valve replaced was one of the originals installed with the pipe that dates back to 1893.

Officials say they will begin the next phase of repairs which includes inspecting new pipe, filling it water and putting that water main back in service.

Work will continue in the area of Clay and Oak Streets through the week on that water main along with cleanup at the site and along neighboring streets.
