LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) — Family members describe 5-year-old Ashtyn Johnson as competitive, brilliant, and sassy with a “smile that will melt anyone’s heart”.

In April, Ashtyn faced a scary diagnosis: Medulloblastoma, a form of pediatric brain cancer. She underwent surgery at Norton Children’s Hospital but was told that St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital would be able to provide the best treatment. Therefore, Ashtyn and her moms, Kiara and Brittney, headed to Memphis.

So far, Ashtyn has completed radiation and is currently undergoing her last round of chemotherapy. Not only is she celebrating her last treatment, but a very special day is coming up.

November 18th will be Ashtyn’s 6th birthday. Because of her treatment, she won’t be able to come home to Louisville and her lack of immune system severely limits her ability to have visitors. However, her family wants to make sure that the day is full of celebration.

They are asking for something simple - a birthday card. The family hopes to surprise this little girl with as many cards as they can get – purchased or handmade.

“As you can imagine, this journey has been difficult,” a letter sent on behalf of Ashtyn’s family said. “Every smile we can produce on Ashtyn’s face provides a break from her current situation and adds the strength she needs to complete treatment successfully.”
