LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS 11) – He spends his days helping patients get better, but it's what he takes on after the clock that keeps him in tip top shape. Dr. P.K Cherian is undoubtedly one of Louisville's most dynamic doctors and the star of this month’s Characters of Kentuckiana series.

Things are always busy at Norton Audubon Hospital. The construction outside is a good match for the repairs and renovations inside. The fifth floor is where the hearts go to heal. Dr. Cherian is one of the many who fixes them. Cardiologist is a career choice the doc decided on decades ago, but he's recently revamped his resume with another role.

The guy who saves lives can also shimmy and shake with the best of them.

"I'm not a natural dancer at all, but Ali told me effort will beat talent,” Cherian said. “Once I attended Alison’s dance class about two and half years ago, I got hooked.”

Those are some wise words from his personal trainer turned biggest fan

"He's my little superstar,” Baptist East Milestone Wellness Center trainer Alison Cardoza said. “I absolutely love P.K.’s enthusiasm to dance. His passion and dedication is amazing. He’s one-of-a-kind. I’m so glad. I’m very lucky to have a client like P.K. He makes me laugh and keeps my job very fun.”

Dancing may not be second nature to this doc, but he's isn't a total stranger to moving and grooving.

"Just jumping up and down, just party dancing, no serious dancing at all,” Cherian said.

Make no mistake, this hip hop hobby is no joke.

"He knows over 200 dances, and we're actually working on turns and leaps right now,” Cardoza said.

"The hardest part is getting those counts and moving according to the counts,” Cherian said.

That’s something this dedicated dancer works on at least two to three times a week.

"It makes me feel great, great, absolutely great,” Cherian said.

His efforts even earning him the coveted member of the month at his gym, with several videos making their way to social media.

Here are the excerpts about his honor:

"I never thought anybody would be interested in watching it. So, I told Ali to go on Facebook and like it because that'll be the only hit I will get,” Cherian said.

38,000 views later, this dancing doc is a viral video star.

"They come and tell me, oh we saw you on the YouTube, we saw you on the Facebook, you're fabulous. These are people who many of them I have never met, and they come and they complement me on those videos,” Cherian said. “It is very interesting when people talk to me about my dancing because people, so far, only talk to me about my work, which is cardiology. Everywhere I go, people talk to me about it.”

At 72-years-young, this choreography-loving cardiologist has quickly become hip hop's most unlikely, but perfect promoter.

“When they see me on the YouTube and Facebook, people think that is something. So, they think if I can do it, particularly at my age, and many of them are much, much younger than I, they think they can probably do it, too. I don’t know. That’s up to others to decide if I can be an inspiration,” Cherian said. “One day after I go into the earth, I will be dancing.”
