LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Fire officials are trying to determine what caused a fire that forced dozens of people out of their homes Thursday night.

The fire broke out shortly after 9 p.m. in a third-floor apartment at the Brown Suburban Condominium Tower on Bardstown Road just south of the Watterson Expressway.

Heavy smoke forced people in about 50 to 100 units out of their home but all made it out safely with no injuries.

The Buechel Fire Department says the fire started when a tenant bumped into a knob on their stove which turned the stove on. Unbeknownst to the tenant the stove remained on and eventually started the fire.
