LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS 11)--It’s become a Christmas tradition in West Louisville – a warm meal at Big Mommas. The Soul Food Kitchen plans to serve more than one thousand people, and this year is looking for your help.

“On Christmas day we will be serving meatloaf, smothered pork chops, fried chicken, mac n cheese green beans, sweet potatoes, and stuffing,” explained Sheryl Fox who works at Big Mommas in West Louisville. You can always count on the soul food kitchen for some home-style cooking.

“Big Momma comes from a family of 13 of them and she believes in giving back to the community. This is her way of giving back.”

It’s not just for the homeless the restaurant wants to make sure everyone has a warm meal for Christmas. Sheryl Fox is big momma’s daughter, and she says for nine years the major cost of the Christmas meal has come out of her mother’s pocket.

“All throughout the year she helps people, and not to receive anything, but that’s just how big her heart is. She believes in giving back and helping others,” explained Fox.

This year Sheryl contacted WHAS without telling her mother, who is more than willing to give till it hurts, and then some.

“This year we are asking donations because we feel like there’s going to be a higher need this year as far as the number of people coming through this year, so we just want to make sure that everybody gets fed this year no matter how high the number gets.”

Giving everyone in the community a way to make Christmas just a little brighter for everyone.
