Louisville releases 2-year plan to fight opioid abuse

Metro EMS reports that they respond to 911 calls related to overdoses in every metro zip code without exception.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Overdose deaths in Louisville have increased every year since 2011, according to a troubling report released by the city.

In fact, Metro EMS reports that they respond to 911 calls related to overdoses in every metro zip code without exception.

Because of these disturbing facts, the city will implement a two-year plan to address substance use and misuse in Louisville.

That plan calls for a focus on those who have received treatment -- including increasing employment opportunities for residents in recovery and making recovery options more affordable. Officials also want to establish stricter guidelines for sober living houses. Other parts of the plan focus on reducing the stigma of addiction.

The city also plans to focus on families and young Louisvillians to address drinking and drug use among teens. If you would like to read the full report, click here.
