LOUISVILLE (WHAS11) – The Parent Teacher Association for the 15th District released a statement on April 24 regarding the possibility of the state taking over JCPS.
The PTA said JCPS has shown it is willing to make changes that will help improve the school system and a state takeover would only hurt the momentum of change in the district. The PTA also said it would “silence the input of community stake holders.”
The statement shows the association is supporting JCPS and is with the district in standing against a state takeover.

JCPS has been under examination by the state of Kentucky for more than a year. The Kentucky Department of Education has been working on an audit of Jefferson County Public Schools since February of 2017.
The PTA’s statement was issued as the Kentucky Department of Education Interim Commissioner Wayne Lewis is expected to visit JCPS on April 25 and 26. Lewis has reviewed the audit and will make a recommendation to the board of education as to whether the state will take over JCPS or not.
The 15th District PTA is a volunteer association devoted to the welfare of children in schools and communities. It is a part of the National PTA.
