NELSON CO., Ky. (WHAS 11)-Kentucky State Police say the man who took them on a two-hour high-speed chase through three counties, all while firing at officers, was shot and killed early Monday morning.

The pursuit began around 1:30 a.m. shortly after Louisville Metro Police officers tried to stop a man for driving on an expired license, who began firing shots at them.

The pursuit took off from I-65 South near Jacob Street, as the suspected driver continued to fire on police vehicles through Jefferson, Bullitt and Nelson Counties.

KSP says the chase ended in Bardstown on Highway 150 at Plaza Drive when the suspect got out of his car, and fled into the woods, still firing off his weapons. That's when, KSP says four of its troopers fired back, shooting and killing the suspect. Those officers are on administrative leave.
