Charlotte, N.C.-based Bojangles’ Inc. has high hopes aspirations for the Greater Louisville market.

The restaurant company recently is seeking franchisees in Louisville, Cincinnati and Evansville, Ind., as it starts moving north.

The company — a fast food chain known for its fried chicken, made-from-scratch biscuits and sweet tea — has about 740 restaurants in about a dozen states within the South and along the lower East Coast. Roughly 60 percent of those are franchised locations, and the rest are corporate-owned.

Randy Icard, vice president of franchise development and construction for Bojangles', told me during an interview last week that he believes the Louisville market — including surrounding counties and Southern Indiana — could sustain as many as 20 Bojangles' locations.

No Louisville locations have been announced, but Bojangles' is inching its way here with some company-owned locations. It opened a restaurant in October on Mortown Way in Shelbyville that was followed by the opening a few weeks ago of a new location on South Dixie Boulevard in Radcliff, a short drive from Fort Knox.
