LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) – After 10 years of waiting, a Kentucky man who underwent eye surgery earlier this week says he has a new view on life.

Carl Huffman continues his recovery after receiving free cataract surgery at the DuPont Surgery Center.

Senator Rand Paul performed the procedure as part of the pro-bono eye surgery he offers.

Huffman says his new and improved vision will help with his work at the steel mill.

“It means a lot. I won’t be stumbling around, tripping around, stepping on animals and stuff. I got big feet and all of them want to get under your feet. So I can see them better,” he said.

“It’s a much quicker result and rewarding to take a cataract out. Patients can see better almost immediately. In politics, it doesn’t always work out quickly as far as getting results,” Senator Paul said.

Senator Paul joked with Huffman saying now that he can see better, he can help with chores around the house.
