The tournament holds a special place in the hearts of many patrons and golfers – but now, it holds a special place in the heart of Ashley O'Hair, a Guilford County native.

It holds a special place in the hearts of many patrons and golfers – but now, it holds a special place in the heart of Ashley O’Hair – after her boyfriend proposed to her in front of the clubhouse on Monday.

“On this year‘s Masters tickets, there’s actually a drawing at the clubhouse and he convinced me that Bobby Jones had planted a really rare tree off to the side of the clubhouse,” she said, “We got there and he told me that we were going to take a photo. And, he turned me around and pointed to show me this tree, and I was like what am I looking at?”

When she turned back around, her boyfriend Kevin was on one knee, holding a hand-carved wooden box with a beautiful diamond ring inside.

“To be able to say that not only have I stepped foot on the Augusta National course, but to say that I actually got engaged there… I’ll probably be the only one I know with that story which makes it even more unique,” O’Hair said.

It was her second trip to the tournament, but last year, they had to leave early due to storms. So this year, what she’s calling her first real trip to the Masters – was made even more special.

“I don’t even know how to put it into words right now,” she said, “I keep looking down at my hand and there is just something sparkly that I’m not used to seeing.”

Her now-fiancé proposed to her during one the practice rounds to make sure his family could get pictures of the event. During the Tournament, there are strict rules – and photography is not allowed.
