Family business builds hope for veterans

Veteran Chris Cruise and his family join us in the Great Day Live studio to show off their handcrafted American flags made from bourbon barrels. In addition to making patriotic products, the family-owned business also provides a supportive workplace and environment for returning veterans.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11) -- Chris Cruise is a veteran who served in the 82nd Airborne Division during Operation Iraqi Freedom, and he now lives in Shepherdsville with his wife Amber, who is a Kentucky native.

The couple decided to combine their pasts by starting Cruise Custom Flags, where they create American flags out of repurposed bourbon barrels as well as provide a supportive workplace and environment for returning veterans learning how to transition into their new life.

Chris is here with his wife and two children, 10-year-old daughter Avery & 8-year-old son Cade, and explains how they all have roles in the family business.
