WHAS Crusade for Children awards $5.1 million in grants

Since its start, the Crusade has raised $200 million for children with special needs.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The WHAS Crusade for Children has awarded the $5.1 million collected during its 68th annual telethon to agencies, hospitals and schools that help children with special needs in Kentucky and Southern Indiana.

The Crusade announced 100% of donations brought in during its annual telethon were awarded in 225 grants. Grant recipients include Boys & Girls Haven, Home of the Innocents, Carriage House Preschool and Seven Counties Services.

Multiple school districts in the area received grants, as well as local universities and hospitals. All grant recipients are listed at the bottom of this article.

"With over $11 million in requests, the board of ministers, rabbis and priests who make the funding allocations had some difficult decisions. Their job was made even tougher these past two years because the pandemic has created needs they want to fully fund," Crusade President and CEO Dawn Lee said. "They did a great job selecting terrific projects and programs that will make life better for children with special needs across Kentucky and southern Indiana, ranging from small communication devices to large capital projects."

Since its start, the Crusade has raised $200 million for children with special needs. Fire departments raise nearly 60% of donations each year. The WHAS Crusade for Children telethon is considered the America's most successful local telethon.

Donations can still be made securely online at www.WHASCrusade.org.
