(WHAS11) - For the last couple of weeks our meteorologists have been inviting us into their homes and sharing with us what they do to live a greener lifestyle. This is how Monty Webb and his household is going green.

One thing they are doing at home is every time a regular light bulb burns out, they replace it with a compact fluorescent. They are highly energy efficient and they pay for themselves within six months, and fluorescent bulbs are 75% more energy efficient than regular light bulbs.

Another way of going green is with reusable grocery bags. They are much better for the environment. When the plastic bags hit the landfill they can stay there anywhere from 10-20 years before they decompose.

When shopping, look for packaging with the recycle symbol. By doing that it keeps a lot of waste material out of the landfills.

Another thing you can do is recycling. Have bins for glass, tin cans, plastic, and paper and cardboard. Tin cans can take up to 100 years to decompose in a landfill. Paper and cardboard stays in a landfill for 2-4 weeks. Plastic bottle 450 years, and a glass bottle 500 years. Styrofoam will never decompose.

The next meteorologist will be Reed Yadon, to see what he's doing to go green.
