Sustainable living is living in the world and on the earth in a way that will allow us to continue through future generations without serious degradation of the environment.

Mark and his brother Tim opened Sustain because they were concerned about the health of our environment. They want to leave a better planet for their children.

Mark explains, "I've got young kids, and I look around and I say, 'Wow.' There's a lot of people here. We're seeing environment change, weather changes, and we are losing natural habitats for lots of things I want my kids to see."

Mark says the best way to start living an eco-friendly life is with baby steps.

"Just little steps that every person can do, that would help us conserve water, conserve the environment, and make it a great place for future generations," he says.

But going green isn't always cheap.

Mark agrees to an extent, saying, "There's no doubt about it we do have some what of a price premium on certain products. But on other things, if you are willing to make the initial investment, it actually ends up being a money saver."

Things like low flow shower heads and compact fluorescent light bulbs can save you hundreds of dollars in energy costs every year.

If you're looking to go green, Sustain is the store for you. They've got everything-stuff for your kids, your pets, and everyone in between.

Mark hopes Sustain will become a green resource for Louisville.

"We're trying to be the educational one stop shop for moms, dads, individuals, and families that don't have all the time to do the research," explains Mark.

Sustain's grand opening is this Saturday March 21st from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. The store is in Saint Matthews and will be holding seminars, presentations, and kids activities throughout the day.
