(WHAS11) -With temperatures falling, many of us will be turning up the thermostat and trying to stay warm.

Heating and cooling your home is the largest single factor in your energy bill, and most of us are throwing away a lot of money every month.

We've come up with some tips to help you conserve energy this winter.

Caulk and weather strip doors and windows that could leak air.

Seal your home's unheated spaces.

Check insulation in your attic, basement, and crawl space to make sure it's providing an air barrier.

Keep fire place doors and dampers closed when not in use.

Replace furnace filters every month.

Lower your thermostat and put on a sweater.
